The first category relates to manufacturers who only produce clothing and footwear to customer’s orders. New collections are presented by companies in the Showrooms or at the Fashion Shows twice a year during the Fashion Week. Some companies make a presentation six months in advance; others show their wares once a year in advance of the new selling season. For example, some producers show in September their range for the next year’s spring/summer collection while others present next year’s autumn/winter collection. Most of the shows and companies’ collections presentations are held in Milan, the capital of Italian fashion. Customers choose preferred articles in the sizes, colours, required quantities from the collection which is displayed by the company in its Showroom or presented at the seasonal Fashion Show and place an order. Companies do not sell articles from the collections during the presentation.
Before starting to fulfill the customers’ orders, companies usually give buyers from 1 to 2 weeks time, after the collections presentation to pay a 30% deposit (part – payment) from the total amount of the order. The whole order will be shipped starting 3 months ahead of the new selling season in several shipments. As each part of the order is ready for despatch the producer will send the customer a Proforma Invoice from which 30% is subtracted in advance of each shipment.
Many companies do not make a contract with the buyer if the order amount is smaller than €10, 000. This amount will be much more substantial for some of its famous brands.
